Kimball Junction Final Environmental Impact Statement and Record of Decision
Under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), a Record of Decision (ROD) is the final document issued by an agency. It is the completion of the environmental impact statement (EIS) process and identifies the agency’s final decision on a proposed project. The issuance of a ROD is a crucial step that allows a project to move forward with final design, land acquisition, and construction.
What’s inside a ROD?
- A statement of the decision, including the selected alternative.
- A discussion of all alternatives considered during the NEPA process.
- An explanation of how environmental, economic, and technical factors were balanced to reach the final decision.
- A statement confirming whether all practical means to mitigate environmental harm from the chosen alternative have been adopted.
- A summary of any mitigation measures that will be implemented as part of the project.
